Going The Distance - R - Erin (Drew Barrymore) and Garrett (Justin Long) are very much in love. When Erin moves to San Francisco to finish her journalism degree and Garrett stays behind in New York to work in the music industry, they gamely keep their romance alive with webcams and frequent-flyer miles. Jack and Clara’s time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.
Restrepo - R - From June 2007 to July 2008, Hetherington and Junger embedded with the soldiers of Second Platoon, Battle Company in the remote Korengal Valley in eastern Afghanistan, as they fought to build and maintain a remote 15-man outpost named “Restrepo” after a platoon medic who was killed in action. The filmmakers avoid all outside commentary and political context in order to present us war as it is actually lived by soldiers, through their own eyes and in their own words—the backbreaking labor, the deadly firefights, the boredom, the camaraderie.

The Girl Who Played With Fire - R - Follow up to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Two journalists on the verge of exposing their story in Millennium about an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden are brutally murdered. Knowing Salander to be fierce when fearful, he is desperate to get to her before she is cornered and alone but she is nowhere to be found. Digging deeper, Blomkvist also unearths some heart-wrenching facts about Salander's past life. Committed to psychiatric care at aged 12, declared legally incompetent at 18, she is the product of an unjust and corrupt system. Meanwhile, the elusive Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past.
Dinner For Schmucks - PG13 - Tim (Paul Rudd) a rising executive, works for a boss who hosts a monthly event in which the guest who brings the biggest buffoon gets a career-boost. Though he declines the invitation at first, Tim changes his mind when he meets Barry (Steve Carell), a man who builds dioramas using stuffed mice. The scheme backfires when Barry's blundering good intentions send Tim's life into a downward spiral, threatening a major business deal and possibly scuttling Tim's engagement to his fiancee.

Unbeknown to their mothers, Joni and Laser seek out their biological father, an entrepreneur named Paul (Mark Ruffalo) . Complications arise when the teens bond with Paul and invite him into their lives.
Solitary Man - R - Solitary Man tells the dryly funny yet all too relatable story of Ben Kalmen (Michael Douglas), a fifty-something New Yorker and former successful car dealer, who through his own bad choices lost his entire business. He's also divorced from Nancy (Susan Sarandon), his college sweetheart and the one person who knows him better than anyone. Although he still finds the time for his daughter Susan (Jenna Fischer) and her adoring grandson, his role as more of a friend than father or grandfather is starting to wear thin on the family. His girlfriend Jordan (Mary-Louise Parker) is the daughter of a very influential businessman who's on the board of a major auto manufacturer. If Ben can just keep his hubris in check for a little while longer, he will be back as big as ever, but some of the same motivations that lead to his demise are threatening to take him down again, and for good.
Inception - R - Warner Bros. presents the new film by The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan, this one taking on a sci-fi psychological spin for the serious-minded action auteur, with Leonardo DiCaprio spearheading the cast. Emma Thomas serves as producer, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, and Ellen Page rounding out the supporting roles.

The horror film The Last Exorcism and the heist flick Takers were in a tight finish yesterday (August 29th) for the top spot at the weekend box office as they both made their debut. According to studio estimates, The Last Exorcism had a slight lead, $21.3 million to $21 million for Takers, but the rankings could change when the final numbers are released today.
The Last Exorcism is about an exorcist trying to cast out an evil demon from a possessed teenager. It stars Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell and Caleb Landry Jones. Takers stars Matt Dillon, Hayden Christensen, Paul Walker and Idris Elba in a story of bank robbers trying to pull off one last job as they're pursued by a tough cop.
The Expendables fell to third place after two weekends at Number One.
A 3-D special edition of the sci-fi blockbuster Avatar, playing in limited release with nine new minutes of footage, opened just out of the Top 10, taking in $4 million.
